brucellosis
an infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the genus Brucella. These bacterium are primarily passed among animals and cause disease in many different vertebrates. Humans become infected by coming in contact with animals or animal products that are contaminated with these bacterium. Humans are generally infected in one of three ways: ingesting something that is contaminated with Brucella, inhaling the organism, or through an open wound. Direct person-to-person spread of brucellosis is extremely rare.
