Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)
Part of US Department of Agriculture (USDA), APHIS is responsible for protecting and promoting US agricultural health, administering the Animal Welfare Act, and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. It is organized to protect animal and plant resources from agricultural pests, diseases, and other threats to America’s food supply. Such threats include hoof-and-mouth disease and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease).
